What we’re looking for…

Principal Data Engineer

In this exciting and varied role, you will be performing a lead role in developing and maintaining Monster’s GCP based data platform to ensure we deliver data to the right people at the right time.

In order to succeed in this role, you will be required to design data structures and data models, design and build data pipelines and have experience in setting and guiding the technical direction for how to build secure, scalable, efficient and fault tolerant solutions within cloud environments.

About the Team...

The role is based within our Global Business Intelligence and Data Engineering team.  Our mission is to empower our data consumers to make decisions through the data the team ingests, models and presents and we are looking for developers who are passionate about data to join us.  The team is based across Europe and consists of Business Intelligence Developers and Data Engineers from a variety of backgrounds who collaborate to provide solutions across Monster’s full data platform for both internal and external users and services.

Our data platform is built upon GCP technologies with the key technologies we use being Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Big Query, Airflow/Composer, Terraform and Looker.

 

What you will be doing…

  • Building and maintaining robust, scalable, automated cloud-based data pipelines using industry best practices predominately within the GCP platform.
  • Ensuring the quality, reliability, and accuracy of data as it moves across systems and environments.
  • Creating and maintaining architecture and systems documentation.
  • Delivering continuous improvement of solutions and processes to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
  • Developing and evolving technical standards, approaches, and processes to ensure a robust, best in class data platform.
  • Participating in cross team code reviews to ensure all solutions developed meet required standards.
  • Leading by example and helping to develop skills across the team.
  • Working within a happy, collaborative, and agile environment.

What’s essential for you to have…

  • A diverse technical background with over 5 years’ experience in the development of data platforms – preferably in an Agile environment.
  • Experience of developing data pipelines in cloud-based technologies, preferably the GCP stack (BigQuery, Dataflow, Composer, PubSub, Cloud functions).
  • Proficient in SQL (preferably 5+ years’ experience).
  • Technical experience implementing ETL or ELT best practices at scale.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing design methodologies.
  • Experience working with both structured and non-structured data in various formats (JSON, AVRO, CSV, TSV, PDF etc.).
  • Skilled in a programming language (Java or Python preferrable).
  • Experience of deploying Infrastructure as Code preferably using Terraform.
  • The ability to connect and communicate with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
